firstly , i'll refer you to Jonathan C. Pike's one star review for the hilarious but strait dope on this ridiculous mess of a film . i can't believe the incredibly talented Ridley Scott made this film . this must have been a contractual obligation picture . from Orlando Bloom washing ashore as the lone survivor of a horrific shipwreck to his predictable tryst with an A-hole's wife to all the other silly stuff that occurs here . even if "this was my first R rated period picture" is your defence . the film is an absurdly jumbled mix of a great cast a superb director much beautiful cinematography and a pretty lazy group of writers trying to make a fascinating film and stubbling like a drunken man with gout . could have been a great film about the crusades . i learned little . the film was not about the crusades but rather it was about this character and his miraculously fast and lucky learning curve . preposterous and pretentious .
